The next few letters - in 1785 regard the secret plan to copy Nicolas Poussin's Seven Sacraments and put copies in place of the originals. Reynolds agency as art-collector/agent becomes clear. The condition of the Sacraments is noted by Byres. There are some more letters noted in my notebook & I will transcribe them soon. The artistic merit of the paintings, much vaunted in the eighteenth century, is still not widely understood, except by a few art historians.
